The island’s east coast
Sorobon sits on Lac Bay on Bonaire’s east coast. The shallow water and trade winds make the bay popular with windsurfers. Even without a board, it is a lovely setting for an afternoon by the water.
Your first lesson or a day sailing
If you’re new to windsurfing, book a lesson with a local school. Discuss your experience, children’s ages and current conditions before renting equipment. Experienced sailors can ask about equipment choices and designated areas.
A bay worth protecting
Lac Bay is a protected natural area with designated zones. Follow the instructions of your school and STINAPA, and stay within permitted areas. Windsurfing and kitesurfing use different locations; do not assume both are allowed everywhere.
Getting there from Sabadeco
Sorobon is on the opposite side of the island from Sabadeco. Allow for the drive when choosing a lesson time. Ask the school in advance about arrangements for family members who will not be windsurfing.
