The climate in brief
Bonaire has a dry tropical climate with little rain: around 350 to 450 millimetres a year, less than most Caribbean islands. Temperatures barely change between seasons. The northeasterly trade wind keeps the heat pleasant, especially on higher ground such as Sabadeco.
Rainy season
Most rain falls from roughly October to January. Showers are usually short and heavy, and the sun returns quickly. Bonaire lies outside the usual hurricane track and is rarely hit directly.
High season: mid-December to April
This is the most popular period: sunny, dry and busy, peaking over Christmas and New Year. In December and January the villa has a surcharge of €50 per night. Enquire well ahead for these months.
Quieter and better value
May, June and September are quieter and often better value. The wind is strongest from May to August: ideal for windsurfing at Sorobon.
Diving and snorkelling
The water is warm and clear all year, so you can dive and snorkel in any season. After heavy rain, visibility close to shore can be slightly lower for a while.
